Visiting Miniaturk After Your Golden Horn Cruise

The Golden Horn cruise puts you ashore at Miniaturk for a 90 minute stop, which is enough to walk the full circuit of 138 models at 1 to 25 scale without hurrying, provided you know two things before you land. Entry is not included in the cruise ticket, and the park takes card or Istanbulkart only, with no cash accepted at the gate.

Miniaturk sits at Sutluce on the north shore of the Golden Horn, and the cruise route reaches it on the outbound leg after passing the Rahmi Koc Museum and the Golden Horn Bridge. It is the only stop on the 2.5 hour round trip, which is why it gets the time it does.

How much time do you get at Miniaturk on the cruise?

Ninety minutes ashore. Here is how that divides in practice.

SegmentTimeNotes
Landing and walk to the gate5 minThe park entrance is a short walk from the landing point
Ticket purchase5 to 10 minLonger on summer weekends, card or Istanbulkart only
Istanbul section25 min62 models, the densest part of the park
Anatolia section25 min64 models spread across a wider area
Ottoman territories section10 min13 models, the smallest group
Cafe or shop10 minBeltur cafes sit at the entrance, mid park and the exit
Return to the boat5 minBe back with a margin, the boat does not wait

That is a comfortable pace for the full circuit. It is not enough time for the paid Miniatek attractions, the mini stadium, the maze, the remote control boats and the tour train, which are separate small charges and would need a longer independent visit.

How much does Miniaturk cost?

Prices from the park’s own site, checked August 2026.

TicketPrice
Foreign visitor900 TL
Full, Turkish residents330 TL
Reduced, students, teachers, police, military90 TL
Children under 6 with familyFree
Combined with the Digital Experience Museum1,350 TL foreign, 495 TL domestic

Three payment rules that catch people out at the gate.

No cash. Credit card, debit card or Istanbulkart only, and no foreign currency. This is a municipal policy rather than a preference, and there is no ATM inside the park.

MuzeKart is not accepted. Miniaturk is run by the Istanbul municipality rather than the Ministry of Culture, so the state Museum Pass does not cover it. Neither does the Istanbul Museum Pass. Reduced tickets need ID at the door.

Old prices circulate widely. A figure of 250 TL appears on a large number of third party sites and is out of date. Budget from the official rates above.

The combined ticket with the Digital Experience Museum is a separate venue rather than an add on inside the park, so it is not useful on a 90 minute cruise stop.

What is Miniaturk?

An open air museum of 138 scale models covering 60,000 square metres, of which 15,000 square metres is the model area itself. The models are built at 1 to 25, which puts the Hagia Sophia at roughly the height of a person and the Bosphorus Bridge at a size you can walk the length of in a few paces.

The collection splits three ways. Sixty two models from Istanbul, sixty four from the rest of Anatolia, and thirteen from former Ottoman territory outside modern Turkey. Two of the models no longer exist as buildings anywhere, the Temple of Artemis and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, which makes the park the only place to see them standing.

Natural sites are represented as well as buildings. Pamukkale’s travertine terraces and the Cappadocia fairy chimneys are both reproduced.

An audio guide runs through a mobile app in nine languages, Turkish, English, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Japanese and Spanish, with municipal wifi along the route. Download it before you land rather than at the gate.

What is the best route through Miniaturk in 90 minutes?

Walk the Istanbul section first. It holds the buildings you will recognise, and if you run short of time later, this is the part you would regret missing. The models here also line up with what you have just seen from the boat, which is the reason the stop works where it does in the route.

Then take the Anatolia section at a steadier pace. Pamukkale, the Cappadocia formations, Mount Nemrut and the Ephesus buildings are the ones people stop at longest.

Leave the Ottoman territories section until last. It is the smallest of the three and the easiest to cut if the clock is against you.

The circuit is laid out as a loop, so you are not doubling back, and there is a descent ramp from the entrance rather than steps.

Practical notes for the Miniaturk stop

It is open air with limited shade. Sixty thousand square metres of park with the models arranged in the open means sun exposure for the full 90 minutes. In July and August the Golden Horn shore holds heat, and there is no shortcut back to the boat. Hat, water and sunscreen.

Wheelchairs are provided free at the entrance. There is an accessible toilet and disabled parking on site, and a baby changing unit beside the women’s toilet on the right of the descent ramp, opposite the children’s playground.

Food is available. Beltur runs cafes at three points, the car park, the park entrance and the park exit, plus snack stands selling ice cream, water, juice, corn and potatoes. There is a gift shop at the exit.

Do not touch the models. Enforced, and reasonable given what they cost to repair. No pets. Tripods and professional shoots need prior permission.

Watch the clock. Ninety minutes is generous for the circuit and tight if you stop for a full sit down meal. The boat departs on schedule.

When is Miniaturk open?

Ten in the morning until six in the evening, every day except Monday. Between 26 June and 13 September 2026 the park stays open until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Monday closure is the one to plan around. If you are booking a cruise specifically for the Miniaturk stop, avoid Mondays.

Can you visit Miniaturk independently instead?

Yes, though getting there by land is more awkward than the water route, which is the practical argument for doing it from the boat.

Buses reach Sutluce from Eminonu on the 50E and 50N, from Taksim on the 36T, from Sisli and Mecidiyekoy on the 54HS, and from Topkapi on the 41ST. Metrobus passengers exit at Halicioglu and change to the 41ST or a dolmus. There is a 300 space car park on site.

Two common misconceptions worth correcting. The M2 metro station named Halic is on the opposite shore of the Golden Horn, more than seven kilometres away on foot, and is not a walking option. The T5 tram along the Golden Horn does not have a Sutluce stop either. If you are arriving by land, take a bus or a taxi, not the metro.

The Sutluce ferry pier on the Uskudar to Golden Horn line is the nearest scheduled boat service, but it sits around 1.6 kilometres away in a straight line and further by road, so it is a genuine walk rather than a doorstep connection.

An independent visit is worth two to three hours if you want the Miniatek attractions and a proper stop at the cafe. For the models alone, the 90 minutes from the cruise covers it.

What else does the cruise pass on the way?

The outbound leg to Miniaturk runs up the north shore past the Ataturk Bridge, Tersane Istanbul at the historic Halic Shipyard, the Rahmi Koc Museum and the Golden Horn Bridge, all with audio commentary in Turkish and English.

The return leg comes back down the south shore past the Bahariye Mevlevi Lodge, Pierre Loti Hill and Eyupsultan Mosque, Feshane and the Sveti Stefan iron church.

After that come the two riverside neighbourhoods the Golden Horn is best known for, Balat and Fener, with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate above them and the Suleymaniye Mosque on the skyline beyond.

Twenty landmarks in all, across two and a half hours, with one stop. Book the Golden Horn cruise here and you get an instant QR e-ticket, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Miniaturk entry ticket included in the Golden Horn cruise?

No. The cruise ticket covers the boat and the 90 minute stop. Park entry is bought separately at the Miniaturk gate, by card or Istanbulkart.

Is 90 minutes enough for Miniaturk?

For the models, yes. The full circuit of all three sections is comfortable at a steady pace with time for a coffee. It is not enough for the paid Miniatek attractions or a sit down meal.

Can you stay at Miniaturk and take a later boat back?

The cruise operates as a fixed round trip rather than a hop on service, so the return leg is the boat you arrived on. If you want longer at the park, visit independently by bus or taxi on a separate day.

Does Miniaturk accept the Istanbul Museum Pass?

No. Miniaturk is operated by the Istanbul municipality rather than the Ministry of Culture, so neither MuzeKart nor the Istanbul Museum Pass is valid there. Entry is paid separately.

Is Miniaturk suitable for children?

Yes, and it is one of the better options in Istanbul for younger children. Children under six enter free with family, there is a playground, and the Miniatek section has a mini stadium, a maze, remote control boats and a tour train at small extra charges. The circuit is flat and stroller friendly.

How many models are there at Miniaturk?

One hundred and thirty eight, built at 1 to 25 scale. Sixty two are from Istanbul, sixty four from the rest of Anatolia and thirteen from former Ottoman lands outside Turkey. Some third party sources say 135, which is out of date.

What is the best time of day to visit Miniaturk?

Late afternoon in summer, both for the heat and for the light on the models. During the summer extension the park stays open until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, which is the coolest window of the week. On a cruise stop you take the time the schedule gives you, so bring sun protection either way.
