The Halic Shipyard (Halic Tersanesi) is one of the oldest and most historically significant shipyards in the world. For more than six centuries, it played a central role in Ottoman naval power and the maritime history of the Golden Horn.
Six Centuries of Maritime History
Established shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453, the Halic Shipyard built and maintained the ships of the Ottoman navy — the fleet that once dominated the Mediterranean and beyond. At its peak, it was among the largest shipbuilding facilities in the world.
Restoration and Renewal
In recent years, the historic shipyard has undergone careful restoration, preserving its centuries-old dry docks and buildings while opening the area to the public as a cultural and recreational destination.
What Makes It Special
